Ep 24: Maggie Baird

Maggie Baird is the mother of Billie Eilish and Finneas. Born in Fruita, Colorado, Baird developed an affinity for performing arts, acting, and singing. After studying theatre and dance at the University of Utah, Baird ventured to New York to perform on and off Broadway and in regional theatres. After making her first TV appearance in the '80s, she went on to land roles on Friends, X-Files, The West Wing, Six Feet Under, and more. She was a company member and teacher at The Groundlings, nationally known improv and sketch company, and co-wrote and starred alongside her son Finneas in 2013's Life Inside Out. A primarily Kickstarter financed film, Life Inside Out garnered acclaim and numerous awards, including both the Crystal Heart Award for Narrative Feature and Best Premiere at the 2013 Heartland Film Festival.
Along with her acting abilities, Baird's gift for music trickled down to her children. She was extremely involved as a homeschooling parent offering a multitude of classes and activities to the broader community, ranging from aerial circus arts to theatre and music. When she taught a songwriting class for teens, Finneas and later Billie participated, helping to ignite their talents.
Maggie has devoted the last five years to assisting her daughter as she navigates the music industry and has joined Billie on all of her tours throughout the world. Together with Billie, she has focused on ways to help “green” the touring and production world. Early in the Covid-19 pandemic, Maggie and her family ordered food from their favorite plant-based restaurant and delivered it to the Midnight Mission. This simple act of kindness quickly grew into a volunteer-fueled organization that provides plant-based meals prepared by struggling local restaurants to people experiencing food insecurity. Since its launch in March of 2020, Support + Feed has expanded to 4 cities and fed over 60,000 people. In honor of its innovation and inspiration, Support + Feed was named Peta's 2020 Company of the Year.
