Ep 12: Laurie MacKenzie
Laurie MacKenzie | Development Director, RAVEN Trust
RAVEN (Respecting Aboriginal Values & Environmental Needs)
Laurie MacKenzie is the Development Director for RAVEN (Respecting Aboriginal Values & Environmental Needs) - a unique nonprofit that raises legal defence funds to support First Nations in Canada defend their treaty rights in court. Laurie lives on the stunning territory of the Lekwugen people on Vancouver Island with her human and pet family. Laurie enjoyed a childhood in the mountains of North Vancouver, on the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh lands, giving her a deep appreciation of the wilderness and a fierce desire to protect it. Laurie uses skills as a fundraiser to raise the legal defence funds needed to stand up to government and corporate land violations.
Educated in our colonial system, Laurie was disheartened when she started to learn later in life of Canada’s real history. Through this unsettling education, her kin relationship with First peoples, her exposure to the pow wow circle, the truths of residential school survivors in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and its calls to action, Laurie has been compelled to participate in settler repair and daily acts of reconciliation.
Coinciding her dedication to reconciliation, Laurie has been on a journey of transformation. This path involved shedding the shame, guilt and fear that is fed by childhood trauma. In so doing, Laurie has found peace in forgiveness and happiness in unconditional love. She is a proud Network Marketer, but her souls’ purpose is to guide others through their own transformative growth. She shared the foundations of this work in her online course ‘The Starters Guide to Your Souls Transformation’[km1] .
